OYAM - The command police in Oyam District have intensified investigations following the mysterious death of a 43-year-old woman.

The deceased, Betty Acio, a resident Wanglobo Village, was found hanging on a tree at Dele Primary School in Angu parish, Iceme Sub County in Oyam district.

 

It is alleged that Acio had recently returned to her parents' home after divorcing her husband, with whom she had five children. Locals say the deceased had been struggling with excessive alcohol consumption.

 

The local council one chairperson, Dele B, Awungu Parish, Iceme Sub County, Walter Ocan confirmed the incident to radio Qfm news desk on Monday.

 

“The members of the community found the body of the deceased aged 43 years old hanging on a tree but we later discovered that the deceased was attacked by some yet unknown wrong doers who allegedly murdered her '', Ocan added.

 

According to Ocan, the deceased had earlier during the day pitced camp at Dele trading center where she later met with the suspects who allegedly raped and murdered her.

Ocan further said the deceased hailed from the Palamyek clan.

 

 

Denise Ego, a resident of the same area said a population of about 300 had thronged Dele primary school to observe police operations that led to the arrest of four suspects.

 

Meanwhile, North Kyoga Region Police mouthpiece, SP Patrick Jimmy Okema confirmed the incident.

“It is unfortunate that her life was brutally taken. Preliminary findings indicate the victim was gang-raped, murdered, and her body hanged on a tree where it was discovered,” Okema said.

Police said the scene was documented by investigators from Oyam Central Police Station as detectives make inquiries into the circumstances that led to the death of the deceased.

 

“Our team rushed to the scene, the body has been removed and conveyed to Anyeke Health Center IV pending post-mortem examination,” Okema added.

 

Okema further confirmed the arrest of four suspects have been apprehended to aid investigations with cases of murder have been preferred against suspects.

The suspects being held at Oyam Central Police Station have been identified as Denis Adwere, James Akwanga, James Otim, and Bonny Ocen.

 

“As Police we want to appeal for calmness from the relatives of the deceased. We are closely investigating the case and shall ensure justice is served to the grieving family,” Okema added.
