This was after an application and request by Managing Director Quality Lighting Uganda on behalf of A-Z Hotel management was placed seeking for permission to display fireworks on Dec 25th, 2023 at A-Z Hotel Lira during Christmas celebration.

"We want to alert and confirm to members of the public that the request was received and permission has been granted by the Inspector General of Police with guidelines", said Okema.

According to the police guidelines, the display shall not be more than 5 minutes, it must be publicized probably to the community members, crowd control must be maintained and also monitor weather and crowd control to maintain safety.

Police further calls on the willing displayers to comply with police directives and guidance, make sure that any fireworks materials not displayed must be handed over back to Counter Terrorism for safe custody, ensure that all unused live products and fireworks materials are accounted for, properly handled, repackaged and secured according to police guidelines and finally conduct a confirmatory site search to confirm no residual explosive materials are left at the site of fireworks display.

SP Okema now calls for cooperation from management of A-Z Hotel to abide by the above guidelines urging the area Police Commander to supervise the whole process properly to avoid calamities.
